This three day class is geared towards those who are currently or are soon to become run & gun videographers. What is run & gun? That’s where you’re basically a 1 man (or woman) band and you operate the camera, you’re the director, the lighting director, the sound guy, and the engineer. This class concentrates on both technical operation of equipment and artistic theory (shot composition). You’ll learn to master your video camera’s settings and learn to compose great shots. You’ll learn how to mic people, rooms, etc… and how to make sure you are recording good audio. You’ll learn lighting techniques ranging from interview lighting to small set lighting. Overview of 24p/HD Editing Workshop

This daylong workshop will explore the issues and workflow associated with 24p projects, using either Avid (Media Composer / Xpress Pro) or Apple (Final Cut Pro HD) software. Students will learn about editing with 24fps material that originates from a variety of camera sources, including 24p standard definition and high definition video cameras, as well as 35mm and 16mm film. In addition to video topics, this class will also review the different approaches to sound post with 24p projects, including double-system and in-camera sound. Technical issues, such as 23.976 vs. 24fps, normal and advanced pulldown, matchback and proper aspect ratio will be discussed. The workflow steps of offline editing and online conforming (for HD) as well as film finishing (for film) will be explained. As part of this workshop, the instructor will give an overview of some of the associated software, including Film Scribe (Avid) and/or Cinema Tools (Final Cut Pro). This workshop is ideal for the independent filmmaker, film student or anyone interested in using the newest electronic tools to post their program or film. At the end of this workshop, students will have a solid understanding of the processes and software involved in capturing, editing and completing 24fps-based productions.
