Avid 101 — Media Composer Editing                   Register for this Class
Length: 3 Days, Price: $1395/student

This three-day course introduces the concepts of nonlinear editing and includes all basic features of the Avid Media Composer system for Macintosh and Windows. Session time is divided between demonstration and hands-on practice, with ample time for experimentation with sample material. Students will use Avid Media Composer to digitize and organize source footage, edit sync and non-sync material, trim sequences, edit audio, create titles, and output work. The final product will be a finished program. This course is also appropriate for Avid Symphony users. Students taking this course should strongly consider taking Avid 110 Introduction to Composer Effects, in addition to Avid 101.

Prerequisites: Designed for the novice Avid editor, no familiarity with the system is necessary. Completion of a Macintosh or Windows introductory course or equivalent is required, and a background in editing, production, or post-production is strongly suggested.

Avid 110 — Introduction to Media Composer Effects   Register for this Class
Length: 2 Days, Price: $995/student

This two-day course introduces basic effects and is a prerequisite for the 305 Advanced Avid Media Composer Effects course. Topics include: creating multilayered effects, keyframing effects, creating effect templates, using AVX plug-in effects, creating motion effects and time warps using the 3D Effects option, and nesting layers. Class time is divided between demonstration and hands-on-practice. This course is also appropriate for Avid Symphony users.

Prerequisites: Students should have completed the 101 Avid Media Composer Editing course or equivalent experience.  

Avid 201 — Advanced Techniques for Composer     Register for this Class
Length: 2 Days, Price: $995/student

This two-day course is designed for experienced Avid Media Composer (or Symphony) editors who want to become more productive by mastering the system ’s sophisticated editing features and shortcuts. Students also learn advanced techniques to help streamline system, media, and project management. Sessions include instructor-led demonstration and hands-on practice. Topics include: editing features (such as Sync Point Editing and Replace Edit), advanced trimming techniques, editing and viewing options, sync audio methods, keyboard shortcuts, user settings and digitizing and redigitizing tips. Project, media and system management topics include: improving Avid Media Composer performance and moving and deleting media. Students taking this course should strongly consider taking Avid 305.

Prerequisites: Completion of the 101 Avid Media Composer Editing course or the equivalent of six months experience editing on the system is required. A background as editor, assistant editor, director or producer is necessary.   

Avid 210 — Graphics and Mattes with Photoshop     Register for this Class
Length: 2 Days, Price: $995/Student 

Designed for the advanced Avid Media Composer or Avid Xpress DV/Pro editor, this two-day course demonstrates how to prepare still and moving graphics for import into Avid Media Composer. Students will also learn how to use Intraframe Editing to create paint effects and animated mattes. Class time is divided between demonstration and hands-on-practice. Topics include: preparing and importing graphics, creating and using alpha channels, layers, and matte keys, and using Adobe Photoshop to treat logos and web graphics for use in a video program. Third party packages used in the class include Adobe Photoshop 7.0. This course is also relevant for Avid Symphony users.

Prerequisites: Completion of the 101 Editing with Avid Media Composer course and the 110 Introduction to Avid Media Composer Effects course or equivalent experience is required.  

Avid 305 — Advanced Media Composer Effects      Register for this Class
Length: 3 Days Price: $1395/student

This three-day course focuses on designing multilayered and multi-nested effects on Avid Media Composer for maximum quality and optimal render time. Hands-on exercises help students create and combine effects to achieve real-world results. Topics include: effect shortcuts and tips, advanced keyframing, nesting and keying, render time reduction, and effect media management. This course is also relevant for Avid Symphony users.

Prerequisites: Students should have completed both 101 Avid Media Composer Editing and the 110 Introduction to Avid Media Composer Effects courses or equivalent experience.  

Avid 119 — Editing on the Avid Xpress DV System    Register for this Class
Length: 3 Days Price: $1295/student

This three-day course is an in-depth introduction to the techniques of nonlinear editing on the Avid Xpress Pro and Avid Xpress DV systems. The class progresses through all the basic phases of creating a sequence, including inputting source footage, assembling and trimming sequences, editing audio, creating titles, and outputting a finished program. Class time is divided between demonstration and hands-on practice. The course is designed for video editors and developers of interactive media

Prerequisites: Experience with Avid Xpress or other Avid systems is not necessary. Completion of a Windows or Macintosh introductory course or equivalent experience is recommended; a background in editing, production, or postproduction is also recommended. Students should also consider taking Avid 129 Introduction to Xpress Effects.  

Avid 129 — Introduction to Avid Xpress DV Effects    Register for this Class
Length: 2 Day Price: $995/student

This Two-day course is an in-depth introduces to the creating visual effects on Avid Xpress Pro and Avid Xpress DV editing systems. Topics include: creating multilayered effects, keyframing effects, creating effect templates, working with AVX plug-in effects, creating motion effects and timewarp effects, nesting layers, and working with the Xpress 3D effects. Class time is divided between demonstration and hands-on-practice.

Prerequisites: Completion of the 119 Editing with Avid Xpress Pro and Avid Xpress DV course or equivalent experience.

Avid 239: Color Correction in Avid Composer /Xpress    Register for this Class
Length: 2 Days  Price: $995/student

This two-day course, designed for the intermediate user, explains how to color correct a sequence on Avid Media Composer and Avid Xpress Pro. The editor will learn how to color correct each shot in a sequence, use Avid ’s internal video scopes, make sure the color and luminance are within safe broadcast limits, and create a treatment for an entire sequence. Class time is divided between demonstration and hands-on practice.

Prerequisites: Completion of the 101 Editing with Avid Media Composer or 119 Editing with Avid Xpress DV and Avid Xpress Pro course or the equivalent of six months experience editing on the Avid system is required.

MTA Studio — Avid Xpress Studio                Register for this Class

This Five-day course provides a one day overview of each of the new program capabilities within the new Avid Studio. The topics covered on each day will be Advanced Xpress Pro editing, Digidesign Pro Tools LE Audio editing, Avid 3D Animation, Avid FX Effects and Compositing, and Avid DVD Authoring. Class time is divided between demonstration and hands-on-practice.

Prerequisites: Completion of the 119 Editing with Avid Xpress Pro and Avid Xpress DV course or equivalent experience.  

Avid 3D — Introduction to Avid 3D                Register for this Class
Length: 2 Day Price: $995/student

This two-day course provides an overview of Avid 3D.  Learn:  1) to create your own 3D scenes and elements  2) to import background plates  3) to create and animate models with complex geometry  4) to add lighting, materials and texture and 5) to work with 3D "rigs" and special effects.  We show you a variety of tips, techniques and short cuts to accomplish these tasks.  Class time is divided between demonstration and hands-on practice. 

Prerequisites: Completion of the 119 Editing with Avid Xpress Pro and Avid Xpress DV course or equivalent experience.  

Avid fX — Introduction to Avid fX                Register for this Class
Length: 2 Day Price: $995/student

This two-day course provides an overview of Avid fX.  Learn:  1) to create advanced 2D title effects and animations  2) to animate and combine compositing apply modes  3) to master the Avid fX DVE and  4) to work with mattes.  We show you a variety of tips, techniques and short cuts to accomplish these tasks.  Class time is divided between demonstration and hands-on practice.
